Recotherm silence a ‘Noisy Neighbour’
Tudor North West Ltd a mechanical services contractor were approached by Wigan council when they had a problem with a noisy ventilation unit on a community swimming pool.
The existing unit was manufactured by Moducel Ltd and when originally installed had a run-around coil system and a heat pump and operated on a full fresh air basis. The heat pump had been removed years before and now the unit was operating on full fresh air with a run-around coil heat recovery system.
The problem was that people in a new housing development close to the plant room were complaining about the noise from the unit, particularly at night in the summer, when they have open windows for ventilation whilst they are trying to sleep. The main problem was that the existing unit was 6 meters long leaving no room to add attenuation, so the decision was taken to replace it. Tudor’s attitude was if you are going to the trouble of replacing the unit you might as well fit the most efficient unit on the market, so they approached Recotherm.
